All we need

I have spoken a number of times about how great the Psalms are for giving us a look into the lives of many people. The best part about that is that we can see how we can react in a Godly way to certain situations.

Psalm 142 is one of those Psalms:
I cry aloud to the LORD;
I lift up my voice to the LORD for mercy.
2 I pour out before him my complaint;
before him I tell my trouble.
(Psalm 142:1-2 NIV)
The Psalmist has a problem and he knows what do. As soon as the problem occurs he runs straight to God. We're only two verses in and already we're learning a lesson. I've been having a bit of a rough week, I'm turning a corner now but I'm still struggling a little, and I have to admit that I probably haven't followed the instructions of the Psalmist as much as I should have.

And so the Psalmist explains his problem:
When my spirit grows faint within me,
it is you who watch over my way.
In the path where I walk
people have hidden a snare for me.
4 Look and see, there is no one at my right hand;
no one is concerned for me.
I have no refuge;
no one cares for my life.
(Psalm 142:3-4 NIV)
The Psalmist is feeling his spirit grow faint, how great is God that in my Bible reading I can read exactly where I feel. For any of us in that situation, as I am presently, the Psalmist offers us this reminder. God is always watching over us, he is not going to let us fall for the traps that the Devil has for us. While the situation in verse 4 is dire, God is bigger than that and God is bigger than any of the problems that we put before him.

And we see a response:
I cry to you, LORD;
I say, “You are my refuge,
my portion in the land of the living.”

6 Listen to my cry,
for I am in desperate need;
rescue me from those who pursue me,
for they are too strong for me.
7 Set me free from my prison,
that I may praise your name.
Then the righteous will gather about me
because of your goodness to me.
(Psalm 142:5-7 NIV)
The Psalmist cries out to God, he is desperate and he needs God to respond. And God will respond, he is so sure of God's response that he writes about it as if it is a certainty, we should have that level of confidence when we approach God.

Whatever our situation God can save us from it, he sees us. Psalm 142 reminds us that there is nothing too big for God and that all we have to do is call on him and he will rescue us.
